I've had the page shown below for a while but only recently paid attention to it. I find it remarkable that the cover with the gloomy poem was posted the day before the crash. Did the creator make one of these each time the Macon was scheduled to fly? Is there a catalog for these covers?

Thanks

Ken

I seem to recall seeing Macon covers in Planty, but It's been a while since I looked at them.

It seems to me that every time the Macon, the Akron, the Shenandoah or the Los Angeles flew anywhere there were event covers being prepared for the flight. And this seems also to have been the case nearly every time one of these airships flew near a place with a post office including not only ordinary post offices around the country but also ships at sea with post offices. There are a number of lists of these covers. A good place to start might be: "Mellone's Photo Encyclopedia of U.S.S. Akron & U.S.S. Macon Event Covers Paperback" by John Ullmann. This was printed in 1996 and has 342 pages. There are a few flights of these airships that actually carried mail and they are listed in the American Air Mail Catalog among other places. The event covers that did not come anywhere near one of the airships are nearly countless though as there were many stamp dealers, stamp clubs, and individual collectors manufacturing them constantly.
