Starting with the assumption that this is the most common variety of the 1857 one cent franklin, can someone please help me figure out which type it is. and if my original assumption is correct also..

Yes. Type V, Scott #24. Very little value in this condition.

You don't have to look any further than the incomplete ornaments along the right side of the design to identify this example as #24.
