Ok, so this is going to be a stretch I think, but: Does anybody out there either collect or have knowledge of how many different covers Dr. J.H. McLean of St. Louis used? I have 4 different covers so far and just wonder how many there could be (I also have 3 revenue stamps (of which two appear to be the same the third is decidedly more black and white); I also have two remaining pieces of letterhead that I know of.

But I'm interested in the # of different covers.
Anybody gone down that road?

Thanks in advance!
dave

I am not aware of any listing of them so I doubt if anyone really knows. Having four different probably gives you as many as anyone has. I can remember seeing perhaps 3 different. As for the stamps (RS170), they come on all five papers, which means that at some point Butler & Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter, NBN, ABN, and the BEP all printed them. So some differences are sure to occur.

Thanks, that was my assumption about the revs. Still hoping someone might chime in and say they have 5 (or more) different covers.

The best way to prompt others to share images of their covers is to first share yours with us. Just saying ....

Well of course John, although I have not asked anyone to share any images. I'm just trying to find out if anyone has knowledge of more than 4 different covers.
But since you asked (maybe you have one?)

I have the following McLean cover which appears to be the same as one you showed. I also included a scan of the back of the envelope.

Great drop cover. Do you have the advertising that would have been enclosed?

From Arthur J. Cramp's "Nostrums and Quackery" vol II, 1921, there are analyses of 2 of McLean's compounds, although from after the 1906 Pure Food and Drugs Act:

from pages 97-98:

and from page 219:

Hey revcollector, I know your post wasn't directed at me but all of my covers shown above had correspondence in them (on the Dr's stationery).
