I used to spend hours checking the Phase of
production
on the Philatelic Archives site and found
all these amazing illustrations in what was
involved in stamp production at that time.

Photo of an essay by Emanuel Hahn the designer

Progress proof notation by LJ Mills Director of Financial Services
The letters in Canada should appear in the sky as though on a separate box

When I look at this imperf plate proof block I wonder what
this would go for at auction.

die proof, colour trial 32m green scratch no 103 Dec 16 9 blue.

What was meant by 32m green scratch no 103 ?

Also accessible are biographies of designers and engravers.

I think when they closed the Canada National Philatelic Museum, they put everything in storage, but I am pretty sure I heard that they sold most of everything off.

Brad905, when did they sell most everything off?

I knew I read it somewhere, but I had to search around. It is from the Wikipedia entry under "Canada Postal Museum". I don't really know what it means or where they got the information.

The museum was closed in 2012 as the Canadian Museum of Civilization began to prepare to transition into the Canadian History Museum. The Postal Museum collections, now in storage, are managed by the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation, a federal Crown Corporation that is also responsible for the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Canadian War Museum, the Canadian Children's Museum, and the Virtual Museum of New France.[2] The postal collection is being broken up. According to the Canadian Museum of Civilization, "Many [artifacts] will be included in the new Canadian history gallery, to be completed in 2017. The national stamp collection, Reflections of Canada – The National Stamp Collection, will be moved to a new gallery, to open in 2014. Two traveling exhibitions are also being developed and will be shown at museums across the country. As well, A Chronology of Canadian Postal History and many other online exhibitions will remain on the Museum's website."[3]

Footnote 3 is supposed to take you to the Postal Museum website but the website is gone.

I certainly don't get the display that the Archives had, where you could select a particular year then zero in in the stamp you wanted. All I get is a list of stamps starting at "#1" and going to "#400" 13c Imperial Allegory. How does one get past this?

Hi PWSCG

There is a couple of buttons on the bottom left of the page. To move to the next list of stamps, push the button with the arrow pointed to the right.

It does take a minute or so for all of the images to download, so if you are looking for something in the 1990's or beyond, it will take a while to get there as it might be 8 pages in.

It is certainly not a perfect way to view it, but it appears to be the only way at this time.

I think perhaps this weekend I will start a new thread specifically on this topic, so more people can find it in the future.

Cheers

Brad

Is there any hope that the archive of Library will be available again?

51studebaker (Don) would consider adding it to his web site..But trying to talk Archives Canada into it is probably a no go.

Couldn't RPSC, BNAPS, VGG or some other Canadian philatelic organization put it on their website?
