And making a list is one thing, distributing it is another if it contains catalog numbers. Catalog publishers will sometimes send you a 'cease and desist' letter from a lawyer if they feel what you are doing threatens their source(s) of income.

What a world we live in
I recently received an email from the publishers of the Scott catalogues requesting that I remove from my web site all albums containing Scott numbers. I complied without hesitation as I have no wish to get embroiled in a law suit for what for me is a hobby. I was annoyed, but on the other hand one can't really blame them for protecting what they see as their livelihood.
The other catalogue publishers seem to follow a different business model however. Stanley Gibbons does not appear to have any restrictions on the use of their numbering system and judging by the online databases I guess that the same applies to other European publishers such as Yvert and Michel because, unlike Scott, all three of these catalogues are freely referenced.
