What does anyone make of this? I came across it in a batch of Austrian stamps on paper, but this seems pretty obviously a fake. It is on thick card stock, with writing on the back so my guess is that it started life as a postcard. My question is why someone would bother to try adding perforations?

Not a fake but a cut square/cut corner from a letter card. You folded the pre-stamped form in half and it was gummed along the edges to seal. 3 sides were perforated so the receiver just tore off the margins along precut perfs to unfold the card and read the message. See if I can find a whole form to show this.

EDIT: Here's a different one, mint, folded:

Similar to some mailed forms used today

Ah ha! I hadn't thought of a letter sheet. Typically those aren't printed on such thick card stock, which is what threw me off. Thanks for setting me straight.
