Here it is... small corner crease at upper right. Green cancel. Scott #11.

Yeah, it looks like Chase plated the stamp. This is a stamp that I bought on ebay. I didn't have to pay extra for the corner crease as it wasn't mentioned.

I wouldn't have the foggiest on what it's worth, but it's attractive!

Napanoch is listed in Chase as one of the towns with noteworthy green postmarks. And I hate to mention it, but the right and top margins could be trimmed to get rid of the crease. What's it worth? Maybe $20? If you got two bidders who needed the cancel and didn't mind the crease, it would go for more, maybe much more. That's my guess.

The bottom left corner in the reverse image looks like there might have been a repair. Still a nice stamp for a cancel collector.

Also the upper right corner (upper left on reverse pic) looks like it may be repaired/added.

Following ttreen's suggestion, this would be perhaps the most trimming I could tolerate. There may be a slight bit more that one could trim but it is the cancel and the margins that made this stamp exceptional. I paid WAY more than $20 and I am sure it was in large part, because of the margins.

I sold this one

http://www.bennettstamps.com/cgi-bi...=1345&lang=1

over ten years ago for $650+tip, and yours reminds me a bit of it, minus the crease.

The crease on yours is removed from the design, and you are targeting an ebay audience, so, sadly, you will probably not crack $100. That would probably bring $150-200 at a normal auction house today, and if the buyer were so predisposed, he'd cut off the crease, and resell for twice that.

I paid $140 by competitive bid on ebay but it was supposed to be sound! I don't plan on reselling it. My desire is to bid on stamps accurately described. I am frequently forced to claw back part of my purchase price.

Trimming would be terrible. The good margin is a much more positive aspect than a trivial problem with the corner.

Winston - Its a beautiful stamp, and, personally, if I were in your position, I would keep that stamp, in spite of the description issues ... although the transaction would leave a bad taste in my mouth - no doubt.

We all get burned at one point or another, by an incomplete/incorrect description, and then its just a matter of what the item is worth to you.

Just to be clear, I did not and would never suggest actually trimming the stamp.

I think it is perfectly fine in certain instances. I didn't have to do much cropping at all to achieve the results that I posted.

Sinclair,

That stamp is easily worth what you paid. It is a beautiful stamp.

Sinclair,

I think you paid a fair price for that beautiful stamp. It has a lot going for it including four generous margins, and a nicely-struck green cancel that is generally face-free. The corner crease is trivial, in my opinion, and doesn't detract from the eye appeal. The Napanoch town cancel is really neat! A town I'd never heard of.
