Many years ago, I found a "Back to front" "N" in the name of Barlangue. (Caen Cathedral) Here was a response from Mr. Blair Stannard (Canada) PS: Links will probably be "dead" ------------------------------------------------------------------ Rodney: No sign of a funny N in Barlangue's earlier stamp of Dunkerque. http://www.mincoin.com/timbres/cote-opale/t7_p.jpgHowever, Gabriel-Antoine Barlangue, born in Villeneuve sur Lot, designed and/or engraved more than 150 stamps (France and colonies) from 1929 to 1953. (eg Comoros Scott #40) and Petain Issue (Oceania, Somali Coast [Design]) So here's a research project for you to find other 'funny' signatures. As a starter here are his French stamps: http://www.phil-ouest.com/Timbres.p...angue&Ordre=DateVente Bonne Chance. Blair ADDENDUM ----------------------- G. A. BARLANGUE (born Villeneuve-sur-lot) 1874-1956, artist, painter and engraver well known to philatelists for his many stamp engravings. BARLANGUE was a student of Jean-Paul LAURENS. Blair |

rod222, thanks for all the info regarding Barlangue. Yes he was the designer for the Jeanne d´Arc stamp. And he engraved the typography Paris Exposition set. But the first steel engraved stamp by him was the Jean Mermoz, which for some reason does not show in your print screen cut out. It is here though http://www.phil-ouest.com/Timbres.p...re=DateVente br / |
