Nells, I found several on Hipstamp and ebay and they were sold as Spanish Colonies - fiscal stamps. Hope this sends you in the right direction, Peter |

THANKS all, looks like CUBA (which makes sense as the seller listed the small lot as SPAIN in order to avoid being blocked by ebay). Does the scale hint to a legal revenue stamp of some kind? ROD: I will try to remember... keep an eye on Nells250 there ;-) No clue of value... |

REALLY confused now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SPANISH-WE...312139070314SPANISH WEST INDIES, REVENUE F117*VF LH SELLO 1898-9 75c DARK BLUE $125 According to Stamp World History: "The Spanish West Indies was the name used for the former Spanish possessions in the Caribbean. While, in the 16th century, the Spanish West Indies included most of the Greater and Lesser Antilles, Spain, in the course of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, ceded many of its possessions in the Caribbean to the British, the Dutch and the French. Thus, in the 19th century, the Spanish West Indies consisted of Cuba and Puerto Rico. Cuba was first explored and claimed by the Spanish in 1492 and Puerto Rico in 1493. Cuba and Puerto Rico were Spanish colonies until 1898, when, during the Spanish-American War, both islands were occupied by the United States. Cuba became an independent republic in 1902. Puerto Rico became a United States territory in 1917 and a United States commonwealth in 1952. For a more detailed discussion of Cuba and Puerto Rico, please refer to the respective profiles. The Spanish West Indies was a name for a group of Spanish possessions, but, as such, did not constitute a separate political entity within the Spanish Empire." |

If he lists it under "Cuba", ebay might well pull it in case it breaks Kennedy's benighted embargo. ebay and Paypal aren't going to consider the details of when a particular Cuban stamp was issued. |

Geoff: good point, though it was the PRICE that confused me along with the definition of Spanish West Indies... (everything I know about geography I learned from stamps) |

Welcome to the forum The overprint is actually from Albania (with a cancel from Vlone) There are many different "double-headed eagle" overprints on albanian stamps. |
