Have this 1918 RPO with pre canceled stamps (Loose).. says fee claimed at Houston. can't make out what is stamped in red..any ideas?

I think the red says "Special (the initial quotation mark is pretty clear) but I can't make out any more than that.

The RPO is "Cleburne & Houston"

It is missing a 3 cent stamp (War rate of 11/2/1917-6/30/1919) + the 10 cents for special delivery still attached.

The stamps are canceled with the killer of the duplex RPO handstamp rotated at an angle. They are not precanceled. Note the RMS in the middle of the 6 killer bars on the first stamp on your cover.

Here is an example showing a more complete strike of the paired (duplexed) cancel and killer and an angled partial strike to get the second stamp.

Thanks John, I got it now. You are 100% right. I thought the stamps were canceled off cover at first not precanceled.. Everything explained now.. Thanks Bob
