This is the last comment tonight for me, carmine vermillion is Scott 180 for special printing of 1875issued, hard white wove paper without gum.I was looking at the link Stallzer provided under his comment. The stamp looks similar to the Scott 180-U18 in chart with mint condition, however, mine is used. The question is does the Scott 180 stamp exist at all in the used conditions?

Uh, how did you come to this conclusion? All of the stamps look similar to each other, and all are relatively well centered (except for yours). If you are talking about the color shade, remember that all of these were scanned separately, and you cannot trust the color differences at all.

Lioness, there is one way to settle this. Have your stamp certified. It's that simple!

100% agree. Post your results back here once you find out.

Note: No one ever posts their results once they find out ... sigh.

I think we now have at least 40-50 threads where folks think they have a Special Printing stamp. How many Special Printing threads will we need to have before folks understand that;
A. They do not have one
B. Even if they did, posting an online image means very little
C. No matter what, a person will need a Special Printing stamp to be certified

Has anyone here ever found a Special Printing stamp in a random mixed lot they purchased?
Don

Thank you all for your comments. I lean towards this used stamp as not rare.
I found these two in a mix lot, unused before no gum. Stock books are notorious for collectors placing world stamps without identifications. Many I have seen do not have Scott numbers. It is up to the buyer to assess them. Many may be common looking threw them, but sometimes collectors may find interesting stamps.

Like others, I take the time to look threw them. It is a challenge.

I have these two I found in past too. Now, you see why I was skeptical.
