Good Morning,

I'm wondering if there is a variety of the Austria Special Handling stamps of 1919. I have a stamp that is on white paper and the other is on yellow. It's a lot easier to see in person as my scanner whitens both images. It also helps to see them in smaller resolutions.

SMALL (WHITE / YELLOW):

LARGE (WHITE / YELLOW):

Thanks for the assistance

Pictures of the reverse may help. Do they both have gum. The top stamp looks washed.

Thanks for your reply. Right. The top stamp has no gum and the bottom one does have gum. Washed or not - I don't see any yellow in the paper of the top stamp and I don't know how you would get rid of the yellow color / paper and not wipe any of the other colors.

Look at the colour and the black overprint. Washed/cleaned stamp dull. Stamp with gum bright.

There is no white paper listed in the Austria Netto Katalog,
neither on the overprint or the original.

There are perforation varieties though.

Perf 12 1/2 X 11 1/2 = 120 Euro

I checked through my stock and found 28 copies of this stamp. There does seem to be a slight variation in the yellowness of the paper. But if compared to a stamp on white paper, I think you would still see a yellowish tone to your stamp.

Do check the perforations though. As lithograving states, there are different perf configurations:

12.5 - most common
11.5 - fairly common
11.5 x 12.5 - less common
12.5 x 11.5 - least common
