Anybody have a clue?
The stamp on the left has normal perforations of 9 1/2. the one on the right has some kind of pin hole perforation and measures around 8-8 1/2. Nothing like this mentioned in Scott.

Since the vignette in the right hand scan looks larger than the left hand stamp could it perhaps be a cut square?

Michel shows 4 different postal stationeries (stamped envelopes) featuring this 3 kreuzer green stamp. They are U17, U27, U32, and U41.

Also, although the designs are quite similar, there are some differences. For example, the shape of the tablet containing the "3" has angled lines and a slightly concave top on the stamp, whereas the cut square has more rounded corners and a slightly convex top.

This is probably a long shot but is there any watermark in the paper? The 1864 envelopes had a watermark 'BRIEF-COUVERTS'. The 1864 envelopes were reprinted.

The stamps, from June 1864, had a watermark 'BRIEF-MARKEN' in double lined capitals across the middle of each sheet. The 3kr was reprinted in 1884 and 1887 but with different perf. gauges than the one you show.

Those pin perfs just don't look right do they? They may have been done decades ago.

Thank you for the suggestions.
The stamp actually has a large portion of paper adhered to the back, as if it was removed from an old album, so I will need to remove it carefully to see what type, if any watermark there is. On the portion where there is no paper adhesion there is gum present.

I haven't found much information on the embossed envelopes, but I have seen quite a bit about the many reprints. While most of the reprints I am reading about were perforated like a normal stamp, the 3k can was also produced imperforate, with gum.

Also, the reprints, as I can tell, have a clear image with sharper embossing, as they were made from cleaned and retouched cliches.

It's certainly possible this could be an imperf reprint that someone (for some reason) decided to add these puncture-type perforations to. The stamp itself has obviously been cut from something initially, either an embossed envelope or a sheet.

I will attempt to carefully remove the paper from the back and see what type of wmk there is.
