Just ran across a German stamp canceled in 1907: "Hammerstadt o.a. Aalen".
I know that Hammerstadt is now a suburb of Aalen, but I haven't been able to figure out what the "o.a." stands for.
Anybody know? Thanks in advance.

is it really with small o.a., not O.A. or OA?
else it could be "Oberamt"

I think it's actually "Oberamt" (district)

I believe you're both right about the oberamt.

I guess I was wrong in typing it as "o.a." because, on the stamp it is all caps, "O.A. AALEN", although in a smaller type size than the Hammerstadt.

Thank you both for solving the mystery for me. I had not yet come across the "O.A." qualifier/locator before.
