I would really, really, really like to see someone claim they have a rare stamp, post a picture, send it in for a cert, and then post their results here. It just hasn't happened ... and usually we never hear from them again. For example, on 5/6 goinpostal said he was going to post the two items that he was going to send in. Didn't happen. Oh well... |

Floortrader - It is US Scott #613. It is a 2c black stamp issued in 1923 to memorialize Pres Warren Harding, who had just passed away. There's a perf 11 flat plate version - #610 - and an imperf version - #611. Also, a perf 10 rotary version - #612. Those are all very common. #613 is a rotary version that is perf 11 - it was produced from sheet waste. Catalog value is mid 5-figures & we can count on our fingers the number of them that have been found & certified. Yet over the past few months, every few days, we seem to have someone post a copy of #610 & claim it is a #613... Here's an auction for all 3 common versions: https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Stamps-...AOSww-Bad0Mn |

Good to see they moved this to the proper section ,because it was in a section about ebay and internet activity ,now its in the U.S. section it makes sense that a 618 is a U.S. stamp . |

Can someone please advise me what the millimeter size should be for the 613. A little bit under 22 vertical, and about 19 horizontally (the frame size) ? |

As I recall, there was an article (I think in Linn's) a few years back about a collector in New England who purchased a large lot of 2-cent black Hardings ... and I do mean large. 6-figure large. If my memory is correct, after a long search (many months) he did indeed find a 613. At the time, he hadn't quite yet finished searching the entire lot ... and, at the time, he had found only one. ADDED: I suspect my memory of the above is wrong in some of the details. Maybe someone can point me to the TRUE story. |
