I found this stamp in the bottom of a $5.00 junk box a couple of years ago...I believe it is just a common Scott 77..Went to stamp smarter, but got confused..I do not see a Grill...?
I'm confused. The OP mentions that he/she does not see a grill on the original description but then is told by revcollector and dial 123 that it's probably a 91 or 98. The Op has over 6000 posts but asks whether having a grilled 15 cent Lincoln is better than having an ungrilled 77?
I am in the mist ofr e-doing every area in my house..All my stamps are all over the place in bins..Maybe, just forget about this for now and in a couple of months when I find it, I will scan the back..Thanks guys.
The grill is clearly evident in the neck. and shirt of Lincoln. Yes, it's either a 91 or 98. Here's why it's better: CV of a 77 - $180 CV of a 91 - $650 (E Grill) CV of a 98 - $275 (F Grill)
So this is why we need to see the back of the stamp, where the full grill will likely be more visible. If you can take a photo with a side lighting (hold a flashlight at 45 degree to the side of the stamp, and shine the light across it, this will create shadows on the grill points, so we'll be able to better identify if it's E or F.)
