Good Morning,

I've never been good at determining color shades... work in progress. I would like a second opinion on the color of these two stamps please. I'm trying to compare them to the website with "QV shades".

Best guess is fine - thanks for the help.

I find the pics in your link are not very good.Too much contrast.
In the link I sent; the color photo & varieties are much better.
The colors are dependant on the printings.
The Green stamp looks like the 9th printing yellowish green....
The other seems like a Pale Claret 2nd printing....
,...?.....

The 1d is clearly oxidized with variation in color in the medallion and top ribbon and with the outer frame darker than the rest. Just curious, how is it you were able to establish the color even as a guess?

It really helps to have more than one stamp to decide about colors. However I realize the gathering a bunch of Victorian stamps can be a problem.

Based solely on your scans, I think the 1/2d green is the yellow-green shade SG 17c would be the Gibbons number if that is correct. The 1d could be the Venetian-Claret SG 22b. It appears to have a purplish cast to the brown, that is why I think it could be the claret shade.

This identification is worth as much as you are paying for it. LOL.

You really do need to see them and compare them with other stamps to be sure.
