I was looking through my plate blocks and blocks and came across some thing that caught my attention...Below is a plate block # 2 printed by British America Bank Note in Ottawa.

According to Unitrade these "Floral Definitives" were printed and released between 1979-1983.

The block below is Scott 782 released Aug.2.1979.

Then why do they have a date of 1977 as shown in the picture below..?..Which is the same date stamp as Floral Definitives by Canada Bank Note of Ottawa released 1977-1983...Should they not be dated 1979

I think Unitrade has made a typo error. The date of issue should read "1977-1983" as shown in earlier editions

Hi: In scott these are no.782b perf.12x12 1/2 1978. Photo.& Engr.
Scott no.707 1977 was Litho. & Engr. perf.12 x 12 1/2
Just different printing techniques but the same stamp.

Unitrade does give 2 sets of these Floral Definitives, the 1st 1977-1982 and # 707 (2c W Columbine) is dated 1977, Apr 22, with printing by CBN Co
2nd set is for Floral Definitives of 1979-1983 and the 2c Western Columbine is dated August 2, 1979 by BABN Co.
Therefore, 2 different printings, the 1st by CBN and 2nd by BABN + the extra info mentioned
The 1977 date as you mentioned (Robert) is the Copyright date, already mentioned in this thread.

This is actually fun am sure both stamps, printed by 2 Companies, are not the same, perf, paper, method of printing etc etc. I have not returned to Unitrade book but it seems quite evident.....now let me see in my collection. Data under each stamp shows difference in perf.........

Absolutely Rod -

1) the 1st Definitives were printed by CBN(Canadian Bank Note) and have a strong tendency (Unitrade) to change colour when exposed to long periods of sunlight and perf 12.0 X 12.5
2) the 2nd Definitives were printed by BABN (British American Bank Note) using photogravure and steel engraving (Unitrade)perf 13.0 X 13.3 (background appears mottled)- 1st Definitives were printed Lithograph.

Amazing Page, Rod !! René

Of interest (also) is the mottled background typical of the 1979-1983 Floral Definitives printed by BABN, using photogravure and steel engraving. Ths is # 786 (Scott and Unitrade)

No problem Rene. I have a few more with lesser shifts ready to post if you would like to see them. I think they are probably common, but I like the visual varieties.
