George Washington 1867 Help

my dad has has a stamp book for some years that he bought over 50 years ago we have only just found it and I have been doing some research I have been looking on valuable stamps and have come across this stamp , the story my dad told me was he bought it off a gentleman who weeks later returned to buy it as selling it was a mistake but my dad refused to sell it . from the research I've done it says there is only 4 known stamps of what I've added in the picture really would appreciate some help

This issue was the main stamp used on envelopes in the US from 1861-1869, and during the Civil War. Many ways to collect this issue, but there were billions printed.

I think you're referring to Scott #82, the "B" grill, which has only 4 copies, all on the same cover. Yours is not a B grill, it's a plain old #65. No riches here, it's worth about 1 US dollar.
Some people collect fancy cancels. Again, yours is a target cancel, common, but you'd has a different center than most. So. It might be more interesting as a fancy cancel than a plain old 65. Again not more than a couple dollars.
With US classic stamps, you should always assume you have the least valuable type, and then learn how to recognize varieties. That takes reading, learning and sometimes years.

ray.mac. Not criticism just interested. How can you tell by that blurry picture, that this stamp has no grill, and that its a plain old #65 ?.
