I saw these two identical stamps, one with a date from 2005, the other without, from 2008. Is it common in German postal stamps to issue the same stamp?
That means that whoever I got it from - did a very good job removing it: There's no sign on the back that it was self-adhesive (those are hard to remove, I remember).
All of the modern Germany sel-adhesive tampsI have encountered are easy to soak off the envelope paper. This is because they are manufactured with a water-soluble layer of material between the paper and the self-adhesive material.
Almost all countries do not put a water-soluble layer on their stamps, thus making them more difficult to re-use if they go uncancelled.
