Is anyone familiar with the 5 volume American Airmail Catalogue books. I have the 5th edition series and would like to know why the new printing is only 3 volumes on the 6th edition.

I'd like to know, too. I need to buy the volume that lists Texas First Flights to 1975.

I don't remember the whole story, but the editor died or something so there was a delay. Last month's AAMS Journal said something about Vol IV coming out soon and the rest following over time. I'll look when I get home tonight.

I was thinking of asking Santa for the set for Christmas.

Mac - the item doesn't say what happened, just that they have a new Editor-in-Chief and that they hope to have Vol. IV soon and that they will be back on schedule.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Any updates on this one. I am looking for where they might have moved Canada First Flight Covers in the 6th edition.

I also saw a listing saying that the book "Canadian Air Mail Catalogue" would be the first volume.

Am I mixing these up or has there been a major change. I am still using the cat. numbers from the fith edition and they have been changed now if I am correct.

Mac:

I've never even heard of the American Airmail Catalogue, so I went to their website just to nose around. It looks like a good organization, but if I were you, I'd be a little worried about those missing volumes.

The date on the 6th Edition is 1998? If they haven't finished it in 12 years...

But thanks for the link anyway - I learned something new this morning :-)

Kirk - Publication of the AAC has always been a volunteer driven process. The AAMS doesn't have the resources of the APS (who doesn't have much as evidenced by their laying off 20% of their employees this year). The six volumes are pretty much the world authority in their respective areas, and if they sold them for $150 or more they might be able to be more timely. The $30 or so that they do charge probably just barely covers the costs of production as it is.

Greg, this is what I found last night trying to get more information and all it did was confuse me more.

Quote:
Vol 1, US Pioneer Flights 1910-1916, US Government Flight, US Air Express, Crash Covers, Airport Dedication, Mexico First Flights, US Pioneer Flights 1910-1916, US Government Flight, US Air Express, Crash Covers, Airport Dedication, Mexico First Flights 1998, 552 pages, cloth

The Airmails of Canada and Newfoundland from the American Air Mail Society The first volume of the new 6th edition of the AAMC. Covers: Pioneer Flights, SCADTA, Semi-Officials, Airship, Government and other covers 1926-1997, Crash Covers, Balloon, Helicopter, Forces, etc. 1997, 552 pages, cloth

Taken from here http://pbbooks.com/air.htm

So is he talking about AAMC vol. 1 or is it the "Canadian Air Mail Catalogue" he is mixing up?
