I am looking for opinions on if folding the selvege on MNH plate number singles when placing in a mount will devalue the stamp.
I have worked hard to obtain XF well centered plate number singles, all MNG OG.

I started with 1 - 10c Trans Mississippi and the entire Pan American issue. I have continued with others sets thru about Sc 715, but 713 is proving difficult to find well centered and I am loathe to break up well centered plate blocks simply to satisfy the collecting quirk of mine.
That doesnt seem to be good stewardship to my way of thinking

I would hate to think I might damage future value 20 yrs or so from now for whomever ends up with my stamps after I'm gone.

Thanks for any opinions

I think you should try a different way to keep these. Eventually these folds will tear apart and then all your work will be gone.

By the way, I do not believe "selvege" is an English word. Do you mean "selvedge"?

I think selvage and selvedge are interchangeable, selvege is just a common misspelling.

Back to the question at hand....

IMO, Folding over the plate number is essentially decreasing the value back to a standard single. The fold along the perforations is damage and poor stewardship.

I hate when I find a stamp like that in a collection. And if the album gets mishandled at all, it's possible that the gum on both will stick together, ruining the stamp.

Actually, I misspelled selvege -- I meant selvage ... with selvedge being, I believe the British spelling.

As far as I'm concerned, the English spelling is "stamp-edging".
