Brunei was a British Protectorate beginning in 1888. Stamps from Labaun and local issues were used until the Post Office opened in 1906. Initially overprinted Labaun stamps were sold, until the first stamps printed for Brunei were issued in 1907.
The design of a native scene was used in varying forms for definitive issues from 1907 until 1952 when it was replaced with an image of the Sultan, so it is one of the longest running sets from the British Colonies.
Identifying the Brunei issues is primarily a matter of determining the difference in the two watermarks (Multiple Crown CA & Multiple Script CA) and the various color combinations which resulted as the stamps were reprinted during the course of the set's production.
If you are a specialist collector, you can look for the various color shades, inverted and reversed watermarks, die changes of the 1c and 3c values, and wet compared to dry paper variations in the 1924 set.
If you collect stamps from this set, you will find 5 different web sites showing the stamps, and explaining how to determine the dies and the paper variations. Use this link to find the sites.
