On April 1, 1957 the DDR issued its third series of Central Courier Service (ZKD) official administrative mail stamps as a set of four values (10, 20, 40, and 70 pf). These stamps are overprints of the second series of ZKD official administrative mail stamps. They are "with black or violet printing of control numbers by means of rubber roller by hand" (Michel). Here is the 20 pf stamp (Mi. #11). The "1500" control number is for Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz). |

Between September and November of 1943, the Allied Military Government (British-American AMG) in Italy issued this set of nine stamps (Sc #s 1N1-9) for use by the civilian population. Michel's Suedeuropa catalog refers these stamps as "issue for Sicily" which was invaded in July 1943 by the Allies. From history.com website, "On September 3, Montgomery's 8th Army began its invasion of the Italian mainland and the Italian government agreed to surrender to the Allies...In October, the Badoglio government declared war on Germany, but the Allied advance up through Italy proved to be a slow and costly process." |
