The following link explains SANs current services and pricing:

I am one of the 10% who said OK. SAN is very important to me and I would rather pay $50 than have SAN raise their prices to auction firms who would add a percentage to their commission, $50 is way cheaper.

With respect to having access to SAN historical data, I'm one who uses it a LOT, not just for pricing research, but when researching populations, usages, and varieties, and compiling census information.

I was disappointed when Tom made this a subscriber-only feature, but I understand why, and there's value to being able to access that data. I was going to subscribe at $100 per year at some point, but now with the special at $59.95 for the year and that rate grandfathered in perpetuity, it pretty much was a no-brainer for me.

For those that don't need or want access to the historical data, paying for SAN membership may not be worth it. For me it definitely is. $5 a month is one trip to McDonalds. I think I can swing that.
