May have found something of value - but I never get my hopes up too high. Stamp is M - NH. U.S. 1929 2c. - Double overprint "Nebr." Stamp has a single horizontal gum breaker on the back. Open to opinions.

Nice looking stamp, but I can't clearly make out a break ridge on the reverse... it might not be genuine...
Anyone else? |

To me the overprint is not doubled, it merely shows regions of missing black ink, which is common in these overprints. The reverse should have both vertical ridges and a single gum breaker. These are best seen online via a photo, rather than a scan, with the stamp held at an angle to light. If you post that we can probably confirm this is a genuine normal stamp. It looks good to me.

Normal Nebr. Stamp Normal Overprint - Enlarged Double Overprint - The "r" resembles an "f" and the period "." is more of a ":" I will attempt to overlay the normal overprint with the double overprint today - No easy task. |

I admit - my example is not perfect - but it will work well enough for now. Bright colors to show contrast / differences in colors / normal overprint vs double overprint: Double Overprint: Overlay - Normal Overprint (Green) on Double Overprint (Yellow): |

Could this possibly be an over inking of the overprint? Still, the "r" looking like an "f" suggests a possible double overprint. |

While I could make out the single horizontal gum breaker on the back of the stamp - I am posting a pic with arrows and high contrast for more clarity. This is the same scan as before - just with color modifications. |

I'm thinking it's not a double print, but just a muddled or overinked variety. The two different angles in the "r" point to this, as I would expect a duplicate angle, just at a different height/location if it was truly a double impression. I don't have too many to compare, but that is my two cents. |

I can't begin to imagine what all could go wrong at printing... I haven't seen one like it myself. My rule has been "show me another one" for a while now. I'll have it expertized. APS PDF: https://stamps.org/userfiles/file/M...erfeitKN.pdf |

I have seen several overprints that are similar. It's not a double overprint, just a poor one. If one has the opportunity to examine a large quantity at one time then all kinds of slightly misshapen and stretched overprints show up. The same is true for the Hawaii and Molly Pitcher overprints, the idea was cheap and quick. |

Thanks revcollector - I've seen the stretched examples - if it were a double overprint, it could appear stretched though - also, I haven't seen one with an "f" for "r" - please post an example. |

I do not have examples home to post; it's just that I spend my time breaking down and cataloging large lots and collections. Not too long ago I cataloged a K/N mint and used stock in 6 or 7 stockbooks so I had the chance to examine perhaps 2000+ at one time. |
