Just Thought I Would Introduce Myself

Hi all,
Decided to register here as guess what??? I inherited some stamps! About 4-5000 loose stamps from 88 countries and 3 25% full albums, one album is German from 1923.
I have read the topics on here about people inheriting stamps and most not worth the thousands people accept and I totally agree as I am not blessed with luck! My stamps seem to range from 1849 to 1993 and as a rough estimate 60% are from 1880s to 1946ish, mainly from Germany, UK, Switzerland, Belgium and France. I have only been able to sort them into countries loosely at the moment but if I were to come across something worthwhile where is the best place to go in the UK to certify them or do people not do that? There might be a chance as the family member that started this collection was certainly not short of money.
Is it worth trying to complete the albums or just start a new one? As I don't want to ruin that 1923 album if its more valuable as it is. Some are mint stamps and some used stamps, do I keep mint and used separate or can I put them in a album together? Is it better to categories them according to stanley gibbons?
I did have a look for these questions on here but I couldn't find them, I do apologise if it was answered elsewhere, probably me just being dappy as I have spent 2 1/2 weeks sorting out those stamps. I can only see stamps when I close my eyes .lol.
Anyway that is why I joined, to find those answers, as it is really interesting for me as I am a history buff so anything historical as most of these stamps are is fascinating to me.

Welcome: That's quite a hoard. I guess you would like to get to 'know' your collection. I would keep all the albums intact and get some simple supplies (envelopes, magnifier, perf gauge, stock books/pages, local library for catalog, cigar boxes) good work space with good lighting, subscribe to a philatelic monthly, this site. Try not to get overwhelmed, it's okay to step away for awhile, sort, identify by country & year and just try to have fun. Treasures are usually found in the antiquities, but there are some to be had in the modern era. Learn the history depicted, set-up a system that works for you. Although you may hear something is worhless, I believe everything has some value (I realize 0 is a naught value).

I would talk it a little slow on upgrading albums etc. Depending on your path there is some expense related so avoiding diving in too quickly. Using stock pages or Vario brand sheets is a good way to organize.

Thanks for your replies. I had no idea what a vario sheet was until now that seems to be quite a good idea. I see in the albums I have, someone has actually stuck some stamps on the pages and someone else seems to have used this double back tape so a vario sheet(s) seem a really good idea.
I agree eligies, everything has a value and especially coming from that line of my family makes even a no monetary value stamp have sentimental/historical value.
As I decided with my brothers if we come across any expensive stamps then we'll sell it but looking at it, it will be nice for our children to have this all organised for them.
