1965 ah yes the year I met my dear wife..another story..at our stamp meeting Thursday our beloved octogenarian Sophie showed up with shopping bags of stamp literature...the Scandenavian Post Horn, American Philatelists to who knows when..i promptly told her I knew one person that was not taking them home...but I took one magazine..an April 1965 American Philatelist...how primitive with a red construction paper cover and all black and white pictures of course...interesting that in 1965 APS membership was only 14,021. I do not recall when the membership went over 54 thousand but it had to be in the 1980's. So now we are back to 34,000 members. In 1965 the APS magazine used to list and picture "new issues" the way Scotts Monthly does now..when I joined in 72 or 73 the magazine was looking like a magazine with slick cover and photos on the front page..still black and white of course..man going back in time like that I realize I am getting old !!

David, no trade required...Jopie also took a magazine home...a 1967 Topical Time which was also interesting..it had an article explaining about the Polish in Italy "stamps" or labels some of us are somewhat familiar with...it seems in 1945 there was a large Polish settlement in Italy as refugees streamed into Italy following their liberation from Nazi concentration camps and compulsory labor battalions...its amazing on the front page of Topical Time it said "knowledge through stamp collecting" How true, how true ! |
