Spock:
I've always done well with Lighthouse brand stock books, for price, quality, and availability.
I think every dealer carries Lighthouse stock.

You can't go wrong with Lighthouse or SuperSafe. They are well-manufactured and rugged -- excellent quality all around. G&K is a suitable alternative that is usually less expensive. I currently use about 30+ of the 48-page G&Ks. I find them an excellent value for the price. The only thing to be careful on the 64-page stockbooks, is that the thickness of the stockbook tends to put a lot of stress on the binding. Usually when I see damaged binding on stockbooks, it's on these thicker 64-page stockbooks. But treat it well (don't use it to swat roaches or flies), it should have no problem lasting. k |

Lighthouse without a doubt... And personally I prefer 16 or 32 pagers with white page.
As for buying... Any stamp dealer with reasonable total price (including possible shipping). |

Another vote for Lighthouse. Try ebay as suggested, or perhaps just an online philatelic supplier. Compare postage from different countries. From Australia this site I have dealt with and would recommend. Email them for a postage quote. http://www.stampsaustralia.com.au/index.htmlThey stock Lighthouse stockbooks and you can pay by Paypal. Very easy company to deal with. Balf |

Stockbooks certainly have their purpose..but when I want to display favorite topics of mine I prefer to make my own stock book using a 3 ring binder and Vario plastic stock pages !! |

thanks a lot Balf. If anyone else has any dealers that they trust and can recommend please let me know so I can compare otherwise I will go with Balf's dealer. I dont feel comfortable plonking down $200 - $300 on ebay if they dont pack properly I will incur a loss. Thanks. |

My favorite is SAFE, made in Germany. This is a 64 page sucker |

Just so there is no confusion, Supersafe and SAFE are not the same company. SAFE is a much larger manufacturer.
Supersafe is currently part of Showgard (Vidiforms). |

I must say I too prefer stock pages in a binder to stock books, although I do use stock books for some items, more for things I'm not looking at much or storage. I use Hagner stock sheets (single sided.) One thing I never liked about stock books is the way the double page interleaving ofen moves and disturbs the stamps as you turn pages, or can even catch on the edge of a stamp as it flops back. Stock books are probably easier to use just for storage though as you don't have to worry about different size strips and you can quickly get stamps in and out - although that leads me to another problem: with earlier issue stamps that have original gum, sliding in and out of stock books wears the gum, usually near the base of the stamp. With a stock sheet you can lift the strip so you don't have to slide it in, just place it and lower the strip. Much safer on valuable older stamps. Balf |
