Next time go through the ebay return process or be prepared for a potential problem with the seller. I have gone both ways depending on the seller or price of the item or price of shipping or if I just do not want the seller to eat too much cost.

If I believe that the the return is a seller's issue then I say at the beginning of the case that I want full refund including mailing cost both ways.

I couldnt navigate the labyrinth of the ebay contact process, so didn't take any additional action as yet. I now find the seller has started her own case ot recover her transaction costs. Does this mean ebay or PayPal will try to shift these costs to me? Seller seems to be a dab hand at dealing with ebay complaints.

No. She's just trying to recover the fees she had to pay.

The item was a lot of stamps in a shoebox and a separate folder of China stamps that proved to be forgeries. It was the China stamps where most of the value was -- or would have been. Hence the parcel post postage costs.

Redwood Randy--
The seller agreed to a return but did 'was unable to send me a return post label.' The ebay message also told me I had to send the item back within a few days, meaning basically I had to do it that day or risk the item would not be returned in time. I now suspect that I should have demanded a return postage label at this stage.

Its many years since I had such trouble from a seller. On the rare occasion I do complain most sellers are very reasonable.

Studebaker--
I dont want to post the link to the item in question. I started this thread because I couldnt navigate the ebay return/complaints procedure and needed help. I wasn't out to name and shame the seller.

Then take a screen shot but blur out the seller name but allow us to see the description and the terms and conditions.

There are two sides to every issue, presenting only one side and expecting objective opinions is not going to work. We are throwing darts in the dark and the thread has little value.

It is like supplying only a few pieces of jig saw puzzle and then asking people to correctly guess at the final puzzle image.

But I'm not asking for people to judge whether I'm right or wrong, I was merely asking for help with the ebay procedure, which is very hard to work through if you havent done it before.

The entire issue hinges upon if the listing properly described the items. If the listing did not properly describe the items, then you have all kinds of recourse. If the listing did properly describe the items, then options are fewer.

If you simply wanted the generic ebay return policy, then you can find that on your local (the British ebay site) ebay site. (Note that the generic return policy may vary slightly from country to country.)

What I am hearing people tell you is that the procedure depends on what the seller said in his/her listing. Some seller make explicit restrictions on returns, others don't. without seeing what this seller said, it is hard to tell you how to proceed.

I have only had to open a case 2 times, but on both occasions ebay refunded me the entire amount, including shipping.

Both times I just looked at the purchase and there was an option to (eventually) open a case. IT may have changed since then. If you aren't seeing anything like that, you may have to use ebay/pay pal generic contact information to get help.

Don is correct. Without seeing the listing we cannot advise you of your options to reclaim your money. That is why we are asking for the item number.

Well, I didnt do anything to follow this up as the ebay complaints system was such a headache, but I just got this message so it looks like all has ended well. (I will check my PayPal in due course.) It looks like ebay was as unimpressed by the seller's BS as I was.

Thanks to all for the useful advice.

As for a 'more deserving seller', it should be noted that this seller has a 100% feedback rating.

"Steve, I've carefully checked the return tracking details as per tracking XXXXXXXXXXX and it shows that the item has been delivered to sellers return address. With the gathered information, I took the initiative to close the case in your favour with a full refund. Please note that the refund will be credited to your PayPal balance with in 48 hours.

Furthermore, I would recommend you search and purchase same items on site from a more deserving seller. With your good buying record, our sellers will surely love to do business with you. I know you are a responsible buyer and I hope that despite the inconvenience you experienced for this transaction, you continue to buy here on ebay.

I trust that I was able to give you helpful information on your claim concern and also for our ebay Money Back Guarantee Program. I'm happy I was able to assist you on this matter. Thank you for choosing ebay."
