ebay has now changed the format of my want list, presumably to make it mobile-friendly. But I find the new look very ill-suited to a large PC screen.

And for some reason it is now listing all the prices in US dollars, despite my location being UK and all the items in my watch list being UK-based items.

It seems ebay just won't give up with its terrible tinkering!

I just love how ebay and other sites just seem to now assume all their users own mobile devices. Yeah maybe most do nowadays but it's getting so one day we won't be able to effectively use a PC on these sites.

The last few times I have used Paypal I get a popup asking to verify my contact number before proceeding, no problem but.. they want a mobile number they can send a text message to so they can verify it. The closed thing to a mobile phone I have is a little cheap cell phone that has no text capability.

I'd bet ebay and PP have nobody on their staff involved on site design/ security issues that is over 35.

I get "accommodating mobile", but the "mobile first" methods that are now all the rage are being interpreted as "design exclusively for mobile" and desktop/laptop users get left out of the equation.

It's a complete 180-degree turn. For years, mobile users complained about not getting the "full user experience" on mobile devices, so now they get the focus and users of traditional devices get short shrift.

Instead of the pendulum swininging so far, it would be nice to see some equilibrium that doesn't compromise both sides.

Responsive design, if implemented correctly, can do just that. However, we've gone from desktop design with mobile as an afterthaught to the reverse.

This is especially important if you work in an industry, like I do in my day job, where mobile adoption lags far behind the market norms. Leaping into mobile-first design and functionality methods just because it's the rage du jour doesn't make sense if only 10-15% of your users are mobile. I'm not saying this is the case with philately, but there most definitely ARE demographics were mobile usage is not yet the predominant viewing method.

The only way to get the full mobile experience is to dumb down more powerful and capable traditional devices to the limited capabilities of a small device? Now we all may end up with the mobile experience? UGH!

I call it "mobile inexperience". The perpetrators will, one-by-one, move on to some other company.

ebay is hardly alone in the stampede toward freezing out anyone not using a $500+ device.

We have been regular customers of a "Mr Goodcents' sandwich shop near here. For years they had a punch card system, if you bought ten sandwiches the next one was free, we filled several cards. Earlier this year they switched to an on line system- using an app to be downloaded to your 'mobile device'. Staff at our favorite store could't explain how I am to participate now. Our local supermarket has a fuel discount service, they are also moving to storage on 'your device'.

Stuff changes, I know. But you'd think they'd have a way to accommodate people without these things. It's like lack of ownership makes you a second class citizen.

Stamps1962...try calling ebay after 4:30pm west coast time about it...after you explain your issue to 'bob' or 'sue', they will transfer you to another dept and you have to repeat everything you just told 'bob' or 'sue' all over again..

Many times I have seen that ebay is offering a special flash sale only on the ebay app.
I don't use the ebay mobile app so I can't get the special.
ebay favors mobile users.

Yes, the Watch List format is horrible. But if you click on the "All Lists" link in the left-hand column, it will use the old format. For now, anyway.

ebay is now also using a new active selling list format, that seems tot ally up the creek. For example, one lot I have listed has had, supposedly, only two views, but has 5 watchers! I didnt know it was even possible to have something on your watch list without viewing it first. Also, it regularly gives me the entire list with no views at all! eg, "O views, 10 watching".
I just hope my sales are ok on Sunday.

Their selling format in place now is horrible. Time was, I could list an item in ore than one category, apparently no longer. They'd get twice the fees but apparently they don't want you to do this. I used to be able to just go in and pick a category, now it's 'Tell us what you're selling' and hope to get put in the right one. If you say it's stamps, you usually wind up with the rubber stampers. It's like their entire app has been lobotomized. But hey, it sure makes it easy for mobile phone users. They're the only people who matter now. Sheer lunacy..

I posted elsewhere on 'Make offer' appearing on listings after I opted put of that option when posting. It's still happening.

Stamps1962, what application or page are you using to list items? I still see the ability to specify first and second categories for an item.

It would be very helpful if folks would take screen grabs and post images.

I use Sixbit software to do my listing and every item is listed in 2 categories, so it is still possible to do it.

I transitioned from Turbo Lister to ebay's online templates last year and I can still list in multiple categories. Just checked and confirmed after first seeing this morning's post.
