I recently published a topic called: "what's your favourite pre-1900 stamp design?" This is only for the stamp design, try not to make the cost play a role. A story is fine in my opinion. A story can really change your perspective on a stamp.

Thanks for reading,
-Julius

Tough one, there are hundreds of beautiful stamps issued post-1900. One of my favorites is the 1939 North Borneo Orangutan.

@ananthveerappan , Very nice stamp. And a very cheap one as well, I'll be sure to pick one up along the way. Thanks for sharing .

This still remains one of my favourites, highest value (if you dont count the ones with the church on it) from the definitives of Vatican (1933)

firstly, this post is stretching the "classic" definition a bit, should perhaps have been in a different section of the forum.

but i'll hit it none the less.

from my time as a 1840-1940 collector I remember my fascination with the african colonies, the animal stamps are very beautiful, but since I sold that collection I can't show anything.

i remember as a kid that I got a hold of some (at that time, rare icelandic stamps) and I thought they were very exciting. so when I see them i'm always struck by nostalgia.
