I recently published a topic called: "what's your favourite pre-1900 stamp design?" This is only for the stamp design, try not to make the cost play a role. A story is fine in my opinion. A story can really change your perspective on a stamp.
Thanks for reading, -Julius

Tough one, there are hundreds of beautiful stamps issued post-1900. One of my favorites is the 1939 North Borneo Orangutan. |

@ananthveerappan , Very nice stamp. And a very cheap one as well, I'll be sure to pick one up along the way. Thanks for sharing . This still remains one of my favourites, highest value (if you dont count the ones with the church on it) from the definitives of Vatican (1933) |

The 1913 Netherland series 100 years Monarchy. 4 designs, showing the 3 Kings Willem(1,2 and 3) and a Queen Wilhelmina. total of 12 values. A clever wine dealer in Rotterdam used the image to promote his goods(not allowed) |

firstly, this post is stretching the "classic" definition a bit, should perhaps have been in a different section of the forum. but i'll hit it none the less. from my time as a 1840-1940 collector I remember my fascination with the african colonies, the animal stamps are very beautiful, but since I sold that collection I can't show anything. i remember as a kid that I got a hold of some (at that time, rare icelandic stamps) and I thought they were very exciting. so when I see them i'm always struck by nostalgia. |
