Even if you were to put it online and charge an "access fee" there are plenty of computer savvy people who could download it and publish it elsewhere. Trying to track down all these illegal versions would be a practically impossible task.

Not only that, but there are a lot of places a book can go that computers can't.

This is a common excuse used by some. How is this any different than someone photocopying a hard copy book? Give me any hard copy article or book in less than a day I can have it scanned and posted on a 'dark web' site hosted in a country that will never support any legal action.

Additionally there are plenty of methods and ways to do digital content management for anyone who wants to 'lock down' a PDF or other publication. A quick online search on Digital Rights Management (DRM)will reveal an entire industry on this topic. Anyone one of them will help content developers and authors make money with online publishing.

Again, I said to supplement the hard copy publications, not replace it. Geez.

Hi Don,

Start a website and charge for subscriptions, or charge for access, or charge 'per view', or simply sell PDF's on ebay. There are hundreds of sites and resources which describe online publishing and literally thousands of online articles which describe how the publishing industry has transitioned to online.

All good ideas, and worth pursuing in the future.

However, maybe I'm just being lazy here, but I'm actually pretty comfortable just collecting stamps and writing about them right now, as I approach my twilight years.

Having to research the things that you're describing, setting up merchant accounts, creating web content, and so on are all things that I don't really have an interest in at this time. Maybe if I was writing about things that had a broader appeal I would look into this.

Plus, that stuff would take away from the two things that I like to do (see above).

My tablet goes anywhere a book can go. It also holds way more books than I would ever want to carry, and I don't need good lighting to read it.

I agree I would not want to sit at my computer to read books, but a tablet or even a phone is a whole nother ballgame.
