I have a R15 block of 9 stamped Mich. So. & North'n Ind'a R.R. Co. and I'm looking for some opinions.

First, the ninth stamp in the block has some inking issues with the "S" on CENTS. Is it just an inking flaw?

Second, need an opinion on a blue fiber. Out of the block there was only a single fiber. Could the block be silk paper?

Thanks ya'll.

Not silk paper, just a fiber left from the papermaking process. It also looks like there was something on the plate on that position, possibly some minor damage. It appears to extend into the bottom margin. Multiples with this cancel are around for some reason, I have seen other blocks and large strips.

Also, the cancel year is 1865, which is 5 years too early for silk paper.

I wonder what was mailed using those stamps.

18 cents were lot of money those days

The block carries a Michigan Southern and Northern Indiana Railroad Company Cashier's Office Paid cancel. So, I'm assuming it would be documents related to a shipment or something related.

These are revenue stamps, not postage stamps.

Yes sir. Revenue stamps on a revenue document or railroad invoice.
