Hello,

I have for some time now many of those French stamps from about 1900, type blanc. I am not the France stamps specialist, so don't have a Maury yet. I just saw that there are differences in color and paper (darker and lighter colors, for example the 1C, 2C, 3C) and paper (white vs. brown mottled as the 1C and 3C). Also, there are some precancels.

I looked at stampworld and my old Michel, but they just list the main stamps. Before I buy a Maury, just wanted to ask if anybody collects them, has some hints about special stamps in this issue, and may be an image or link showing a list of the "type blanc" specialized? (is there for example more details about them in Maury?)

thank you.

---
just found this site which shows them quite good:
http://www.philatelie-francaise.com...he_blanc.php

is this a good starting point?
(for example, there is not mentioned the 1C light grey without overprint?)

Maury lists and illustrates the Blanc types and shades. If you're buying one catalogue of metropolitan France, I'd recommend it over Yvert. And it's very good value in two volumes (the earlier material in a hardback volume, the later in a paperback) at around £20. It also shows air-mail stamps at their proper point of issue, rather than segregating them as Yvert irritatingly does

I have a hard time understanding what you are writing about ,I see your in Germany so maybe your English is more difficult .

It sounds like your asking about the war time printings on certain French stamps . These stamps have paper that is more grayish than brown but some of mine look brown too. These stamps are known as G.C. paper . The G.C. is for Grande Consommation .They start with the 1900-29 Liberty issue and go to the 1906-1937 Sower issue .

If this is what your asking about I can scan a few for you to see . If it is something else just ignore this posting .

FT - I think it's the GC paper issues, but also the different types of various values and the different shades.

hello and thank you again. My questions are all in my first post :). I don't expect specialized answers yet, as I can't ask specialized questions yet. I just wanted to know whether there is a good source of information about the type blanc in the internet (website or PDF). I don't have a Maury and thought also, that perhaps it's not that detailed about the type blanc perhaps. I didn't find much information about paper types, colors and precancels of the type blanc and just would like to read an article about it look at some summary. I know this e.g. from the large and small queens where I read quite a lot the last weeks in the internet.

Actually I don't collect Canadian or French stamps, but I have though many of them, in our family album, and coming from purchases of US stamps, and so I can't hide and just have to learn more about those stamps on my desk. But I don't want to buy specialized catalogues for all countries in the world, as I am lost soon in wanting to know it all.
