The Victory stamp above, refers to the Allied North African Campaign,
as does this film, rushed to release, to take advantage of the publicity of that campaign.

The 1943-44 Hassan tower set can be further divided. Maury gives no details, and I can't find my Gibbons France catalogue, but Yvert identifies three issues:

(i) perf 12, "brillante" gum (with two unspecified types found se tenant on the 10c, 40c, 70c, 80c and 2 Fr);
(ii) perf 11 1/2, with matt, less apparent gum on the 1 Fr 50c and 4 Fr 50c; and
(iii) perf 12, with matt gum, colours slighly different, which would help in separating used copies from group (i).

I've twice had a go at properly sorting out this series, and have been interrupted on both occasions - time for another try.

Geoff,
I wonder if they have been reprinted.
I lost via a cheap bid on a mint set on the weekend, I was happy with my used, albeit it doesn't help with the gum ID.

1963 Gibbons (A5 catalogue) Europe and colonies.

Found Gibbons France while knocking over a vertiginous heap of stock-pages. Doesn't add anything - another false memory. The perfs on some of these stamps are in a bit of a state - your 2 Fr 40c is an example - making precise measurement tricky.

Tricky yes, but not insurmountable.
My early collecting history, was surrounded by the grunge and floor sweepings, that's all I could afford, however learnt a few tricks, (helps with early Turkey)

No matter how badly a stamp is perfed, if you line up the teeth with a known guage stamp, the erratic holes will line up, if your good stamp is of similar guage.

Some examples look impossible, until you line them up side by side, and the result can be amazing.

Yvert & Maury list the 1c as 80 ("gris-noir") and 80a ("gris" or "gris clair").

The 3c is Yt. 82, on carton paper is 82a ("papier GC"), issued in 1919. Apparently the 1c also has a carton paper variety (only listed in Maury, not Yvert), will have to keep an eye out for that.
