I am not aware of how the overprints were carried out, your CYPRUS differs markedly with the C, Y, and S from the stamp shown in that link.

Here is an Overprint from my collection, from a 2.5 penny that has suffered drastic light damage.
You can use it to compare your overprint.

The fact that it's plate 212 seems quite damning, given that the plates used for this issue have been known for nearly 150 years.

So does this mean that the CYPRUS overprint in the first image is faked or might it be the plate number that's been faked?

On my screen the CYPRUS overprint looks like it's sitting over the London cancellation.

Be aware that cancelling ink. being less viscous can sometimes move over the more oily Overprint ink, giving that impression.

The overprint is likely to be fake - there are many on the market. Most collectors get duped because they are unaware of the plate numbers used in Cyprus. More prevalent are the Cyprus half penny overprints (again on the GB one penny red) Particular notice here should again be given to the plate numbers used but also the length of the overprint.
The Cyprus Study Circle based in the UK has published an extensive study on these (for sale)
