A question out of curiosity; has anybody tried using Swan lighter fluid to detect watermarks?
I can't seem to find Ronsonol in my area and was just wondering if Swan is a good alternative.
Thanks in advance

I was unsuccessful finding any Swan MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheets)

There is a safety sheet here (No reference to "Bull brand")

Compare it perhaps, to Ronsonal data sheet which is readily available.

Ronsonol, Zippo and Swan are all light naphtha. I have never used Swan.

Ronsonol no longer contains naptha, since being purchased by Zippo.

Just to confirm

I use Swan at the moment and it doesn't seem to cause any problems. I used to use Ronsonol but this hasn't been available of late.

Lighter fluid manufacturers do not have consistent manufacturing practices so there can be a lot of variance from bottle to bottle. The best practice is to find a white bowl, shake the bottle well, pour some in the bowl, let evaporate. The examine the bowl for any contamination (it would look like small particles). If the bottle has these, don't use it for watermarking.

Zippo removed the benzene from Ronsonol in 2010 not the naphtha.
