Certificate - Stock Transfer Tax - Fake Or Real..?

Although not definitive, I have found a stock ticket from 1927 for 100 shares. The tax appears to be 2¢ per share. So the stock certificate that started this thread would appear to require a 10¢ NY stock transfer stamp. It is a 20¢ stamp. That completes the argument for me that the 20¢ NY stamp did not originate on this certificate. There are too many things that do not fit. Whether deliberate or not does not matter. Wrong rate, wrong period stamp. Nothing matches what should be there.

Thought there was some thing wrong, but not knowing USA stamps, I went about it the wrong way..But ended up being fake anyways..Thanks.

I am not sure that I would write them off as fake just yet. You have a couple of very knowledgeable experts with conflicting opinions. I think the jury is still out.

Maybe, back in the day, an unscrupulous stock transfer agent figured out that he could remove previously used transfer stamps from stacks of old certificates which were piled up on shelves in the cellar, and attach them to the myriad certificates which he received for processing and he kept those nice little fees in his petty cash box for guess who.
