1881 Steiner Page 57. Shall have to re-do this page, ghastly Showguard mounts have gone crinkly, and the printing is woeful. I need to find another way to explain Perforation varieties. J11 1897 Assume Forgery Perf 11˝ x 13˝ Striated white gum. I have no idea what is going on with this J11 *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Preliminary study of the 1890-1896 Sc# J18-J23 Dues. Sc# Wmk 163 (Psuedo Watermark, is really an embossed impress) I was wondering if the embossing would survive soaking, I have 2 x 2 bani examples, 1 unused (the embossing looks like cancelling ink) the used can still see some embossing. Crossing the fingers. Sc# J18 Unused. Positions existing with Sc# Wmk 163 ( I am not sure how one would get an inverted embossing ) "Nihil Sine Deo" = Nothing without God. |

The embossing machine may have been too small for the size of the paper sheets. One side of the paper is embossed, the paper is removed and turned round and fed into the embossing machine once again. The potential for error is obvious. It may also have been the case that the forme had been inserted the wrong way. |

Thank you. '74 Catalogue translation. The watermarks of the catalog are reproduced in the form that they appear looking at the postage stamp face face. The watermark is made at the time of papermaking by pressing the dough before drying. Watermark no. I (, Small cusson) (escutcheon? rod222) appears the first time on remission VAUTOURS 14 Oct. 1889. This is not a watermark proper, it was "obtained by pressing the paper after its output of manufacture, it appears in relief and is called ,, pseudo-watermark ". In a normal way the watermark is encrusted in position 1, once and entirely on each stamp and rarely in the other possible positions: On front or reverse on the back or front side (Fig. 4). The watermark represents the coat of arms of Romania: the small escutcheon with the semblance of Moldavia (the head of auroch), Wallachia (the vulture), the Dobrudja (two dolphins) and the Little Wallachia (Oltenie) (the lion) ). Embossing visable on a used example. |

Study of the 3 Lei Postage Due of 1926 (Sc#J69) I cannot match "Romaniastamps.com" decision to guage these stamps as "K" (Perf 13˝ x 14) I dispute that and favour Scott guage of Perf 13˝ x 13˝ (known as "A") Even though, the perforation are comb. Doing the math, the stamps have 17 teeth giving a guage of 13.6. No way can I get my Perf guage to read 14. Michel may also side with Scott? Whilst on the subject, perhaps 2 new Flaw discoveries of Sc# J69? |

T over gap T over E T over P Shown here is the 5 bani on thick paper, if I translate correctly, this stamp does not exist without the overprint. (Looks like carton paper) |

Rod, I like the plate flaws on the 1942 issues. There looks like strong potential for new discoveries. |

Tim, possibly so, and they are not that expensive to collect for items. The most abundant flaws exist in the 1911 onwards sets. I thought "romaniastamps.com" would have the lot, but perhaps not so. (They even lack a guide to Watermarks, at least I could not find it) I am still struggling with the Catalogue (In German, Romanian, and French) An example of the 2 Lei............ |

Rod, it looks like you could spend a lifetime just collecting and studying Romania postage dues. Very impressive, all the flaws, embossing and watermark varieties. |

Tim, indeed. It began, like a schoolboy, taking apart an Alarm Clock, (w'eve all done that, havn't we?) You unscrew a nut here, take off a spring there, suddenly you have a box of bits and pieces, and no way of going back.
I started with Romania, because the 1970', 1980' labels were cheap and available to a very limited budget, I could actually finish album pages for pennies, Eureka!
Then I discovered Romaniastamps.com, and a very good dealer overseas that sent me rarer stuff, and suddenly, you're in neck deep...........
As an old love of mine used to bracket some of our acquaintances..., A "Peck's Paste Job" (Nice, but in limited doses)
