I have a 24x18 box full of first day covers of various things that my dad left to me when he died in 1994. Who would I be able to contact in the Memphis, TN area for more info on these items. Many are of military and America's cup races from the New England area. There are quite a few of each cover.. Thanks. I'm not a stamp or cover enthusiast..

Are you sure these are 'First Day Covers?' From your description these sound to be event covers. There wern't any US stamp issues for the America's cup. Can you possibly do a scan of a few of these? No way for any of us to tell what you have there unless we can see them. Do these have a little gold colored stamp replica on the envelope? Very common.
Sorry to say I will be surprised if you have anything you could sell for any significant amount of money. |

The ones with the autographs, assuming they are actual autographs and not printed on ones, may have a bit of value depending on who the people who signed the autographs are. Though, assuming they were people such as the stamp designer and post office officials and the like I would not think they would be much added value. The ones without the autographs are not likely to be of interest to dealers as they are relatively recent first day covers that were created in enormous numbers and there are not many collectors of these.
My suggestion is that you make this collection your own and perhaps enjoy looking at it and even adding to it as a remembrance of your dad. Alternatively you might consider donating it to a local charitable group who might be interested such as disabled servicemen who may not be able to get out as much as they used to or possibly the local Boy Scout Council for use by scouts in earning their stamp collecting merit badges or such. The tax write off for a charitable donation may be higher than what you may be able to get from someone buying them, if you can find someone who is willing to pay something for them. |

Apologies, I forgot about the postal stationary issue for America's cup. You have some nice material here but I agree with the last poster; best to keep this and use it as a basis to build on. I'm sure you could find a buyer on ebay but you may not like what you'd get for it. |

I was just curious what ebay would show - a couple of sets of the Elvis covers finished at $9 and $15; Touro Synagogue first day covers are mostly finishing at a buck apiece... |

Looking at ebay, and the ones bringing "$9 and $15" are less common cachets and/or hand painted cachets. Your covers have very common cachets, so $1-2 each. Sorry. However, if you list them as a set you could get more. Try for $10 for the set of 5 Elvis covers, but even then they are likely to sit a long time before selling. |

Just to add a little more knowledge to the pot... The ones you pictured with autographs are actually First Day Ceremony Programs. Attendees at the First Day of Issue Ceremony would often have the chance to get their programs autographed by the dignitaries in attendance. Not a huge market for FD Ceremony programs but autographed ceremony programs sometimes tend to sell. If I were tackling the resale of your inheritance I'd break the ceremony programs into separate lots. Good Luck.
