The OS means that it is an official stamp, used by government officials. The crown you found on one of you stamps is a "watermark", part of the paper manufacturing process

Bailey,

First stamp poor scan cannot comment

Wow! nice "Pariament House" Postmark, not seen before.
(does not mean it's valuable)

The "O S" is referred to as an Official Puncture ( Official Service )
(Sometimes called a PERFIN.)

The mark on the back is a Watermark, impressed into the wet paper during production and used to prevent fraud. Comes easier to read with preferably Watermark fluid, or any time, if soaked in water.

Your watermark is the bottom row "CofA" (Commonwealth of Australia)

Bailey, how does one measure something with a bit of cotton? Being a stamp collector you should have a perforation gauge - they usually come with an inch / millimeter scale,

Bailey,

That's OK , that is too large for Postmark,
never mind, it is all a learning curve.
You may wish to find a ruler, that has a millimetre measurement,
my old wooden school rulers used to have them.

It should read around 23mm (millimetre)

It can only be 1 of 2 types
These were only used when Parliament was sitting

If I am reading my catalogue correctly, there is 1 type only 4 examples are recorded.

If you do manage another reading post back please.
Happy collecting.

Did you perhaps measure the circumference of the postmark, and needed the cotton to do that? 85mm divided by 3.1425 equals 27.05713 which would be about the size of a postmark.

Wow!
There's some thinking outside the box. Well done LRP.

Bailey,
you just need to measure, horizontally across the black postmark, edge to edge, in a straight line.

Bailey,
well done. (and thank you)
We have both learnt something, I missed the tiny "arcs" in your postmark,
It may be a common Postmark after all. (still open for a decision though)
Had it been the RRR postmark, you may have had a nice win. (No world cruise though)
Hopefully a Postmark specialist may chime in one day.

Consideration of the day.
Never treat "new to this" as a negative.....engage with the excitement.

Bailey,
look at the bottom two Postmarks, the outer ring is called the "Frame"
in other words "The Framed CDS" CDS = circular date stamp.

The little "arcs" are the tiny inside lines that join the town name to the state name.
These can differ between otherwise identical postmarks, important nonsense to the postmark collector.

Your postmark enigma.... you say it is 23mm diam, yet it has arcs
That's why it is either undiscovered or a mistake has been made by yourself or the catalogue.

The Parliament House cancel cannot be 23mm. The height of the printed portion of a KGV is 25mm. The diameter of the cancel appears to be the height of the printed stamp plus the white borders. I measured a few 2d orange KGV and came up with a rough 28mm height for the printed stamp and borders (measuring from perf tip to perf tip).

Regards
Frank
