Does anyone know why Scott chooses to have only one set of numbers for these two groups of stamps. They differ in both perforations and color

This is new to me so interesting know if I remember. I do not have either in my collection.

I see a notation in Scott that they exist. As I read it sheets of 40 are the listings and sheets of 3+labels had changed colors. Not a good excuse to not list them. You can list these as "a" or "v" varieties.

Yes, there are at least three sets like this and though Scott notes their existence, they don't give them a separate number or even a letter. Just curious why.

Probably some violation of the Scott Catalogue Listing Policy. I'm guessing #6. Check the Introduction to any Scott catalog.

Thanks Robert. That makes sense. I guess the fact that the sets were issued at the same time makes the case for them being "intentional varieties".

Today I received the 2019 volume 3. There is no longer any mention of intentional varieties (that first sentence has been deleted). So, you may see them listed (no longer footnoted) in the near future.

If that was true the catalog would be a lot smaller since they list so many souvenir sheets that duplicate issues.

I would believe the original cataloger did not know, someone mentioned it later, they added a footnote, and was not much of a priority to update. I had asked them why they assigned numbers for certain US issues and the response was that was how the editor did it at the time. The listing policy really depends on the editor.

Can someone post a scan of the SG listing? My SG catalog stops at 1970.

I actually do have the 1L issue. Steiner does not include a page for the additional varieties either.
