Thanks to the joys of kiloware I am now the unwitting owner of hundreds of these ... something. Is there a name for them? I'm calling them transport stamps for want of a better name.

I am not sure what you are asking - they are regular stamps. Topically they could be in the transportation category

I mean to say, they are all in the same general design. They are from various states, but all the same size, and characterised by those coloured horizontal bars. In short, they look like each other, but they aren't a set in the conventional sense. More like omnibus, I guess.

OK, I see what you mean. These stamps are probably all issued by the same folks - some outfit in maybe New York that runs the "philatelic window" for several smaller nations, similar to the "dunes" issues in another part of the world.

One might consider them part of an Omnibus Issue--I'm no expert (so correct me if I'm wrong), but various Commonwealth countries (during the 1980s?) issued se-tenant pairs depicting different iconic forms of transportation. I believe the locomotives were representative of Welsh trains. |

Thanks, eyeonwall. At first I thought you were having a little joke there, but I Googled it and you're bang-on. Leaders of the World it is. What a strange name for them. No idea what I'll do with my envelope full... |

Hi Rod. Practically all my examples are singles. Only one se-tennant pair found so far, as in my scan at the top. Are you interested in singles?
I'm about 60 percent through sorting a bag of loose Commonwealth stamps, which the seller estimated to contain 10 to 15 thousand. At the current rate, I'll end up with 200-300 of these. Some are creased from being stuffed into plastic bags, but most are OK. |

Ringo, (Thanks for the Wedgwood post in Teapots) As for the stamps, I am the easiest guy in the world to satisfy, I take anything, I deal in floor sweepings. They are not a big deal for me, as far as value goes, you may wish to try first on ebay, try and recoup some expense. Otherwise wait until you have sorted the bunch and pass something by me. Tip : Always try thematics first when on ebay, trains on stamps should give you a way better response than "bequia" etc. |

I won't try to sell them. You can have them - I'll give you a shout when I've finished my mega-sort. |
