So I started to transfer my stamps for my stockbook to my machin catalog but I see that several are a bit damaged (got those from several sources). Do you guys keep the damaged sramps until you get a better one? Also do you sell those damaged one which you don't use? In my opinion, only undamaged stamps shold be sold but like I said, I received a lot of stamps from several sources and several are damaged.

Yes I do. I have no problem with that, I replace as better stamps come along. The main interest is the stamp, and its history, condition is second.
Some may disagree, but you have to tread your own path. Whatever pops your cork.

I am with Rod. I keep the damaged stamp until I get a better one. When the better one comes along, the fate of the original depends on how much damage, a pulled perf, small thin, or crease goes back in with the duplicates. A tear or or worse goes into the circular file unless it is a particularly rare stamp that someone else might want as their filler. |

Quote: In my opinion, only undamaged stamps shold be sold Why make conditions? they are merely misplaced intentions. A sale is an Offer and acceptance, if nobody wants your damaged, then donate. Treat stamps with the respect they deserve, there are people somewhere, that may desire what otherwise will be destroyed. How else will people like Don, get stamps for his light shades? How will I get stamps for my bike? ..or my guitar ? or my 5 million "Ball of stamps" (Boys Town Nebraska) Destroying stamps is discourteous and lazy........... |

lol cool items. I did a chair like this about a year ago. Sorry if my comments offended you. What I meant is if people know they are damaged and still want them, I see no problem. But selling damaged stamps without letting people know in advance is wrong, no? Maybe this is normal, I don't know lol. Still learning a lot. I just don't want to eventually sell stamps which people are not happy with. I am trying to see how it is suppose to work. |

No need to apologise, just offering options to those whom "bin" stamps. Quote: But selling damaged stamps without letting people know in advance is wrong, Of course, treat everyone, as you would have them treat you. |

Rod222 how do you get your stamps so flat on the bike. What adhesive do you use. I cover homemade slip cases with torn stamps. |

Depends on the rarity of the item: I have kept a badly thinned NZ no. 6 (cat. >$7,000) which otherwise looks good from the front; but I usually destroy damaged stamps of low value (<$10). |

Quote: Rod222 how do you get your stamps so flat on the bike Apologies Noocasel, I was speaking in the 3rd person, trying to get a point across. The bike is not mine or the guitar. However, I would suggest if you are keen, a visit to your local fender bender mender, car repair shop, and discuss applications for "clear lacquer" this may be what the bike person used ( a fine looking bike) I often watch Ian Roussel (full custom garage) and he uses the clear laquer often. I have stamps ready for my road bike, but never seem to get the time to get into it.....too many stamps. |

I am assuming you studied the stamps carefully before doing collage with them. You might end up sticking a rare colour error stamp on your bike thinking it was a cheap stamp. |

Keep the damaged stamps until I get better example. IF "cheap" and common stamp. then scrap the damaged one if a "better" stamp offer it around as a filler.

Generally speaking, no. However, if it is a key value or scarce to rare stamp, or just a higher value stamp, I will, but only until I get a better copy. My opinion of course.

Quote: But selling damaged stamps without letting people know in advance is wrong, no? Yes, but selling damaged stamps with full disclosure is fine. I've found that when I list "space fillers" on ebay with full details on faults they tend to sell pretty quick - typically at 10% of cat or so. I think there are plenty of people who are interested in filling out sets but who can't afford the top values. |

You all are making a big mistake with damaged stamps . When you start including damaged stamps ,any dealer who is going to buy that collection or people like me who buy at stamp auctions start to discount the value of your collection . That discount can be greater than 10%. Even if all you got is 2 cent stamps the value is that big of a discount can hurt .
Dealers and auction buyers don't have time to look at all your stamps ,the factor is a quick glance maybe a longer look if it contains hundred dollar stamps but a review of $3,000 catalog collection should take 10 or 15 minutes at most unless it is a specialized collection ,Dr BOB FRIEMAN takes less than 5 minutes ,he goes thru auction lot viewing like a hurricane . |

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am a collector. That's all I do. I don't invest or think about re-sale value. I just collect, for pleasure, and for me, damaged stamps are absolutely fine, so long as the overall impression on the album page is good. A missing perf or a thin matters not a jot to me - much better than an ugly cancel. |
