Ringo, the rarity of this cover stems from the fact that these are China stamps on a Singapore cover. The postmarks are Singapore postmarks. |

The stamps are J21 China stamps issued in 1977. The stamps were pasted onto a China Stamp Exhibition cover during a 1980 stamp exhibition held at the World Trade Centre in Singapore. |

The stamps are cancelled by the People's Republic of China post office at the exhibit in Singapore. This is the same kind of situation when various post offices (or their reps) have stands at large stamp shows. |

The cancellation has the head of a lion, a symbol of Singapore which is known as the "lion city". It looks like a typical Singapore cancellation to me. Perhaps I will check with the Singapore philatelic museum. |

Just checked with the museum, the cancellations are not by postal services of either country, these are cancellations by the organising body, they are cachets. |

Assuming that philatelic covers from this area like others are valued much less than commercial covers? |

China first day covers from the 80s onwards are in abundance and many are cancelled not by the China postal service. Dealers are getting rid of them very cheaply. For Singapore stamps, there is a law that only allows for the postal department to cancel the stamps. Cancellations on Singapore stamps by commercial entities are not allowed by law. |
