From The Legendary Persian Rug by Thomas C. Kingsley – Discussing the basis for the census of the $500 issue (Chapter 2):
"…but an additional large hoard that is purported to exist is not included in the tabulations."
"They (the 'hoard') were procured from Hiram Deats in exchange for a very large accumulation of tax paid revenue stamps 80 to 90 years ago. The stamps have remained in the same family since that time."
My questions, please: 1) Has this hoard come to market in the years since the book was published in 1993? 2) The number of Persian rugs printed was 210 according to Kingsley. Has that number changed? 3) Seventy-six examples of the Persian Rug were known to exist in 1993. Has that number changed?
This is a stamp that is very popular and very scarce but is almost always available if one looks for it. Usually 3-5 sell at auction every year and someone will have one at any major show, often more then one.

On my grail list, but I don't have pockets deep enough. Even a marginal example will set you back $8-10K, and most that come to market garner well above $10K.
