Hi Everyone,

I have a few Indian Feudatory States Stamps "Uglies" for identification. I can just about identify the State, but I'm at a loss in regard to the Paper Type, etc. I know that this area can be a minefield, so I'm assuming that these are Forgeries(?) I have been trying to identify them via the Stanley Gibbons Catalogue. Some of them I think I've found, and others don't even match the colours listed!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

(1) Duttia, but paper type? SG No.?

(2) 4th & 5th Bhopal, but paper type?

(3) 6th picture can identify Cochin, but Paper Type? Others Jammu/Kashmir?

(4) 7th picture, Bussahir, no idea about SG No's. Chakhari Colour?

(5) 8th picture, no idea.

(6) 9th picture, Faridkot? but colour Green is not even there!

(7) last one, Poonch? I don't see black as a colour in the Catalogue!

1. Duttia SG 16b, wove paper, rose-red

2. Bhopal. The pair appears to be SG 64, the black stamp probably SG 65, the green used stamp probably SG 63. Difficult to be sure about paper type and whether original or reprint without seeing in hand.

3. Jammu and Kashmir. They are both half anna stamps. First one appears to be the wrong colour so could be a fake. Second one hard to be sure - need to see the paper in hand.

Cochin - there are two watermark varieties on wove paper and a scarce one on laid paper. Again no way of telling from an image only.

4. The Bussahir are both reprints/remainders. The Charkhari looks like SG 5b, quarter anna violet.

5. This is a Faridkot half anna lithographed 'stamp' produced for collectors after Faridkot's own stamps became obsolete.

6. The green stamp is a reprint, the blue probably SG5 on wove, although other papers exist.

7.The three Poonch items appear to be forgeries.

I hope these comments are helpful and inspire you to explore these issues more widely!

I would like to poke into peterh's "inspirational comments".

The Charkhari stamp is 1902 ¼A violet SG 10 on thin wove paper, characterized by the absence of the lower part of the vertical stroke of 4 of ¼.
