I don't normally pursue proofs, but I just recently picked up a $2 third issue revenue card proof with what appears to be a double transfer in the top panel.

In addition, there appears to be some other kind of defect in the S of PLURIBUS.

Scott does not list double transfers on proofs. Any idea how this affects its catalog value? Also, anybody else have any double transfers of this issue that show a defective S? Dan Harding has an R145 image showing a double transfer, but his is stronger and more defined than this copy.

Any comments?

This is the DT; not sure why it isn't stronger. Perhaps there was more then one position. Very jealous, I keep looking but haven't found one on the proof yet. It's a tough DT on the stamp for both the second and third issues. I would think that 5x the normal proof value would certainly be indicated.

Yes. Please show a scan of the entire proof to put it into full context for us.

I'm jealous - that's one of 23 card proofs I am missing to have a complete P4 card proof revenue collection.

Beautiful proof, by the way. Mind if I ask where you found it?

Got it off ebay. You have to work a little harder but some gems can still be found.

What the heck did the seller have it listed as? It didn't pop in my proof search (which I get emailed with daily) or as R145 or P4 or essay. Was it part of a larger lot?

Here's the screen shot:

It was listed under Revenues and Proofs and Essays.

Notice the seller identified it as 145P4 (forgot the R).

Nice find! Yeah, leaving off that "R" definitely kept this one away from me. Congratulations!

Thanks so much for sharing this.

That's position 1 of R123 and R145. I was the underbidder -would have been a duplicate for me. There is a major double transfer at position 45 and minor shifts at positions 24,42,43 and 44. Karl

Karl,

I'm assuming your copy also shows the deformed S at the end of PLURIBUS?
I'm also guessing that Dan Harding's copy on his website is probably position 45.

The blur in the S is only stray ink and not constant. Dan has position 1 (R123) shown on his website. There are more scans (listed under R123 because the blue stamps are easier to see) at Ralph Trimbles web site re-entries.com . They are under "new additions" .
