The whole of the UK on probation? That really is Yankee Imperialism.

I'm still mystified by the USPS requirements on what envelopes, rates etc can be used for international post. There don't seem to be similar rules for outgoing mail on the Royal Mail website, for example. I send via International Standard and print off the customs form from the web, fill it in and attach to the envelope.

I was just kidding about probation, my wife and I love to visit UK. However if I keep having problems with a particular country I will block the country. For a while everything I sent to Germany was being held up at Customs for 40-50 days, needless to say there were many unhappy customers. I don't like unhappy customers because there is always negative feedback to worry about plus a lot of messaging that takes time too.

GeoffHa

I am in Canada and Canada Post and UPU have stated the anything of commercial value sent outside of the country can't be sent letter mail, It has to go as a parcel.

It has destroyed many small sellers sending small light items.

How odd. Why should they care whether letter or parcel is used - neither is easier or harder for the buyer's customs officials to examine?

It's the UPU rules, not USPS. Letter rate shipments don't need customs forms and small merchandise can evade paying custom fees/VAT. Luckily, I haven't heard of an U.S. post office clerk that has enforced these rules yet so most dealers here just ignore it. If it was truly enforced then shipping stamps or a cover would jump from $1-$3 per ship to over $12.

Another UK bidder. No other bidders ever ask for this:

Quote:
Can you please send through an invoice for this purchase. I am hoping you can send this regular airmail with no indication of value on any customs forms. Will save us being hit with 20% customs tax in the UK.

Many thanks
Nigel

I've had that question numerous times, but vast majority of my shipments weigh 3oz or less thus no form. ebay has their rules and buyers have to abide, but in the end it's up to you.

Still no reason to block UK as you'll still be cutting off the nose to spite the face and even your domestic sales will drop in value as underbidders can also be international bidders. Your bottom line will take a beating far worse than the occasional mishap.

Battlestamps,

Try shipping albums to the UK. They'll bleed you white.

Jack,
Been there done that. I've mailed bulk boxes to Egypt and Brazil that required over $60 in shipping. Never had an issue with such parcels as bidders knew the shipping amount upfront and were okay with it.
